Marsh Saloon

Kentucky Post, Monday, 2 March 1903, page 5

A daring attempt to burn out Frank Marsh's saloon at Front and York Streets, Newport, was made Sunday at midnight. Friends were in the sitting room playing and singing when the Fire Department was called by the cook. The rear kitchen was damaged and the occupants rushed into the street, badly scared.

The cook stated she left a can of oil on the outside of the kitchen after lighting the lamps and the oil disappeared. It is evident the fireman say, that somebody poured oil on the rear kitchen and put a match to it in an attempt to burn down the place.

Marsh's place is a pleasure resort and a number of women and men were in the room at the time the fire alarm was turned in. The police are making an investigation.
