Marshall Christine Keiser

Miss Marshall Kiser (sic) is visiting her mother at Alexandria Ky. Miss Kiser has for some time been employed as sugar inspector for the Spreckles Sugar Company of Hawaii. She began the study of chemistry at the Lexington State College and continued the study under the direction of Prof. John Uri Lloyd and William Simonson.

She made good progress and in the fall of 1901 became a member of the American Chemical Association in Chicago, representing the Cincinnati division.

A marriage which was of interest to many people was that of Miss Marshall Kaiser and Col. L W Holt, a wealthy merchant of Baisto, Texas, which took place Wednesday night. Miss Kaiser was an instructor in the Highland public schools for several years and a very popular girl.

She was interested later in a sugar refinery company as chemist in Honolulu. Mr. and Mrs. Holt will make their home in Texas.

Marshall Keiser was born 24 Feb 1874 in Alexandria to Marshall and Mary Margaret Keyser. She married Leland Wallace Holt 18 March 1903 in Alexandria. She was listed in the Biographical Cyclopedia of American Women as a chemist, miner and rancher.

She died 11 Feb 1952 in San Rafel California.

Private funeral services were held today at Harry M Williams mortuary, San Rafael for Mrs. Marshal Christian Keiser Holt, 77, of 510 Belle Avenue, San Rafael. She died Monday after a brief illness.

Mrs. Holt was born in Kentucky, was a student at the State University of Kentucky, Ohio Mechanics Institute, Cincinnati and Institute of Technology of Munich, Bavaria. She was a teacher of chemistry; a chemist for West Java Sugar Exporters Station, island of Java; president and manager of Holt Land and Cattle company, Colorado; owner and manager of Orchard and Farm, San Francisco and was a mining and chemical engineer actively engaged in farming, mining and land development.

Mrs. Holt also contributed to agriculture, chemistry and mining journals. She was a member of the Yaqui Indian Tribe, Mexico and was a direct descendant of Chief Justice John Marshall, for whom she was named. She was the wife of the late Leland Wallace Holt and sister of the late Benjamin C Keiser who was a retired chemist.

Interment will be at Cypress Lawn crematory.
