Kentucky Post, Thursday, 28 March 1907, page 5

Mrs. Margaret Conway, wife of J H Conway, the missing Ft Thomas contractor, received a letter yesterday from the dead letter office at Washington, which had been mailed in Newport the day her husband is thought to have ended his life by drowning in the Ohio River. The letter was not addressed properly and was not delivered until the authorities at Washington learned of the right address.

It was written by Conway on one of his own letterheads and said that he was not able to meet his friends or business associates, owing to the charge of horse steaming that had been preferred against him. He gave his wife advice how to proceed with his business and what disposition to make of his body, should it be recovered. He stated he had made up his mind to commit suicide.

Mrs. Conway notified the Newport police of the letter and its contents. She stated today she was fully convinced now her husband has taken his life. The member of the Conway family had a diver at work t the foot of Beech av. Newport, yesterday, the point where Conway is thought to have walked into the river, but no trace of his body. Conway disappeared March 15 having been arrested the day before in Cincinnati for the alleged theft of a horse.
