Main Street Baptist Church

11093 Alexandria Pike, Alexandria, Kentucky

Information comes from the files at the Campbell County Historical and Genealogical Society in Alexandria Ky.

The first members were a part of the First Baptist Church of Alexandria. They dealt with missionary vs. non-missionary philosophy which caused a division within the congregation leading some member to separate and focus on a missionary direction. This founding group felt keeping a priority in missions to be a part of the Southern Baptist Convention. Twenty-none members held their first meeting in a garage, then later in the Campbell County High School gym.

Property was purchased on Main Street in Alexandria and on August 25, 1957 the mission became the Main Street Baptist Church. In 1961 a note of $40,000 was taken for the construction of a sanctuary above the basement and Merwyn Borders became the new pastor. He served until 1964. Donald Lam served as pastor for two years an in 1968 Calvin A Perry became the new pastor and served faithfully for the next 30 years. In 1976 under Brother Perry's leadership the entire building debt was retired and land was acquired for a parsonage. In 1980 a house was purchased to serve as a youth annex. In 1991 pans for a multi-purpose building became a reality and in 1994 the Family Life Center was completed and dedicated to Calvin A Perry.

In April 1999 Troy Dobbs became the fifth pastor. In 2000 twenty-two acres was purchased south of Alexandria to relocated the growing congregation. In 2004 Main Street Baptist's first service was held in the new sanctuary and dedicated January 2005. On July 28, 2007 Main Street celebrated its 50t anniversary.
