Miss Mary (sic) Zeidler, 65, of 312 W Third st. Newport, was burned to death Monday when trapped in her home by a blaze which destroyed the dwelling. The victim was found by firemen in a bedroom on the second floor. The body was virtually covered with burning embers and was badly charred. The victim it is believed, apparently was asleep when the fire broke out and was suffocated before she could flee.
The blaze broke out shortly after 9 am and when firemen under the direction of Edward Miles, assistant chief, reached the scene the dwelling, a two story structure, was enveloped in flames. Firemen had been informed by other residents of the dwelling that Miss Zeidler had fled from the dwelling. Firemen were unable to enter the dwelling because of the mass of flames.
Miss Zeidler lived alone on the second floor and harbored a large number of cats, the majority of them were killed in the blaze. Two years ago police and health authorities visited the woman's house and killed more than 100 cats which were found in the dwelling. Miss Zeidler is said to have a brother and other relatives living in Covington and Ft Mitchell. Her body is being held at the Charles S Smith & Son, undertakers, Fourth and Monmouth streets, pending the location of relatives.
Miss Zeidler is survived by two brothers, Robert Zeidler of Green briar place Ft Mitchell, and C G Zeidler, Belleville Mich. retired minister.
