DEATH ACCIDENTAL
Coroner Higgins of Newport has completed his investigation of the
death of Mrs. Louise Wiegel, wife of Jacob Wiegel, of 323 East Fifth st. Mrs.
Wiegel was run down and killed by a freight train on Monmouth st. last Friday
night. She was on her way home from a visit to her mother, and in crossing the
railroad tracks between Sixth and Seventh sts. was struck by the engine which,
together with a number of cars, passed over her body mangling her form in a
fearful manner.
It was intimated shortly after the accident that the manner in which she was run down indicated suicide, but Coroner Higgins in his examination of witnesses failed to find any testimony to substantiate this theory. His verdict is that the unfortunate woman's death was accidental due to multiple injuries received. No blame is attached to the crew in charge of the train.
