Upon receiving a telegram from the War Department at noon Saturday, informing her that her son, Louis, had been killed in action, Mrs. Carrie Schardt, 44, of 115 Central avenue, Newport, collapsed. Members of the Life Saving Squad were summoned and revived Mrs. Schardt. Her son is believed to have been with the US forces in Italy.

Gold Star Mothers Club of Campbell county will meet at the John Radel funeral home at 7:30 pm Friday to hold services for Pvt. Louis Schardt.
Page 7-Services will be held at 10 am Saturday at the Radel funeral home, Newport, for Pvt. Louis Richard Schardt, who was killed in action May 23, 1944, at Bougainville after serving four months in the South Pacific. The Rankin Prout Carius Post will be in charge of military honros. Rev Harold Barkhau, pastor of St John Evangelical Church, will officiate.
Pvt. Schardt served nine months with the Ohio 37th Infantry Division. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Schardt Sutterfield; a son, Louis Richard Jr. his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Schardt and a sister Mrs. Lenore Caylor all of Newport. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
