LEYMAN E BAKER

A shadow of deepest gloom was cast upon all relatives and friends and especially upon the household of Leyman Eugene Baker of Alexandria, when the sad news was received early Tuesday morning, August 15, 1950 of his passing away at the Veterans Hospital, Dayton, Ohio, where he had spent the last three and a half months of his life trying to overcome what the doctors diagnosed as the Hodgkin's disease.  To us it seems almost a tragedy for one in the prime of his youth to be pulled from his home and loved ones who need his guidance and tender care, but God in His wisdom knoweth what is best and we should not question His wisdom.

He was born near Grants Lick May 22, 1920, thus was 30 years, two months and 23 days old. His parents were Bennett K Baker and the late Lillian Thornton Baker.  He was united in marriage to Miss Helen Louise Gosney on Feb 8, 1941, to whom three precious children were born, Billy, Marilyn and Brenda Fay.

Besides his immediate family, he is survived by his father; three brothers, Blaine Baker of Claryville, B K Baker of Butler and Jimmie Baker of Alexandria; three sisters, Mrs. Bernice Prebble of Alexandria, Mrs. Grace Line of Newport and Mrs. Roberta Weekich of Covington and man y other relatives and friends unnumbered, who admired him for his gentleness and kindness to everyone.   He was a devoted son and brother, a loving husband and father and will be sorely missed by his companion who stood so noble by and did all she could for him and also by his children who are too young to fully realize there great loss.  He served in the infantry during World War II and was overseas ? months.  He was a member of the Campbell County VFW Post 3205.  Brother members of this organization held prayer service at the funeral home at Grants Lick.  The Commander Robert Knuehl and Chaplain Ray Layfield in charge.  Funeral directors Smith & Sheanshang carried out all the arrangements.

On account of the church being remodeled, funeral services were held in the auditorium of the Grants Lick School building with former pastor Rev D P DeHart Butler, officiating and was assisted by the pastor Bro Armming, conducting the devotional.  The DeHarts rendered two special numbers in song. "Does Jesus Live" and "Beyond the Sunset" with Mrs. DeHart serving as pianist.  Casket bearers were Billy, Milton and Burney Casson, Leo Carmakc, Ervin Goetz and Elmer Betram.

Nieces and nephews on both sides of the family were flower bearers and were assisted by several others.  Twenty-two lovely floral pieces were placed around his bier and later hid from view the new made grave in Oakland Cemetery.  Friends from far and near called at the funeral home in respect and sympathy and a large crowd attended the last sad rites.  As the services were concluded at the grave side, a nice large flag was presented by Bro DeHart in behalf of a grateful nation to the bereft companion in memory of faithful service of her loved one to his county.

Leyman passed on beyond our vision.
All heedless of our falling tears
Unconscious of our desolation
Un noting of our lonely years
And while we linger and grieve our loss
Come tender voices unheard before
Weep not; the one for whom you sorrow
Has gone up higher and closed the door. Mrs. J B S
