Pfc. Lester J Gerding, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo J Gerding, 723 Maple avenue, Newport, was wounded in action on Saipan July 9, his parents were informed by the Navy Department.
Stationed with the Maries Pfc. Gerding has been with the Marines overseas for 21 months. He attended Newport High School. A veteran of Tarawa and Saipan, Pfc. Gerding was employed at the American Tool Works Co. Cincinnati, prior to his entering the service. A brother, Leo Gerding, was given a medical discharge from the Army recently.
