Two Newport brothers, former members of the Sixth Ward Boosters
and Newport Rolling Mill softball teams, are now serving with the armed forces
overseas. Cpl. Leroy Diedenhofer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Diedenhofer, of
1009 Brighton street, Newport, has been promoted to sergeant, according to word
received here. He is serving on Mindanao and has received the Purple Heart for
wounds suffered May 27. He received the news of V-J Day on his 21st birthday
anniversary Aug 15.
His brother, S Sgt. Edward Diedenhofer, was recently awarded the Bronze Star Medal for "gallantry in action" in the European theater. He is now at Hamburg, Germany.
