The Newport Fire Department responded to an alarm Monday from the home of Louis Hineman, 216 Columbia Street, Newport, where a small blaze on the roof was caused by a defective flue.

Louis Hineman arrived at his home in Newport after serving an enlistment on the battle ship Franklin. Hineman was honorably discharged with high honors.

Funeral arrangements for Louis Hineman, 81, of 723 York st.
Newport, who died Thursday, following a long illness, were being completed
Friday. Hineman was a retired soldier, having spent 31 years in the United
States Army. He was a veteran of the Civil War, where he won a Distinguished
Service medal. He was a member of the Army and Navy Union.
Hineman lived in Newport for 28 years and is survived by four sons and a daughter.
