Lawrence Rubia

Kentucky Post, Wednesday, 6 August 1947, page 1

Two Ft Thomas brothers lay in the same ward in Speers Hospital Wednesday asking forgiveness of each other after they had staged a shotgun fight at their home, 720 River road, Tuesday. The victims of a temper flare are Frank Rubia, 57, recently given a disability discharge after 20 serving 20 years in the Army and his younger brother, Lawrence, a veteran of World War II. Both were described by hospital attendants as in good condition.

Physicians had probed into Frank's right chest, neck and arms and had removed 57 shots. Lawrence had been struck in the back of the head and neck by a shotgun blast. Patrolman William Wright learned the trouble began in the house. Lawrence had lain on the floor to keep cool while he was trying to sleep. When he awakened he struck his head on the side of a chair, lost his temple and picked up the chair and slammed it to the floor.

Frank entered the room and chided his brother for breaking the chair. Lawrence answered by aiming a blow at Frank. Frank then countered with a punch in the nose which drew blood. Lawrence got a shotgun, stepped into the rear yard, was confronted by Frank, who had armed himself with a .12 gauge. Lawrence opened up with the first blast and Frank cut loose with a shot.

The brothers were removed to the hosptial by the Ft Thomas Life Squad. Both brothers had been employees of Ft Thomas. Frank had been working in the Waste Collection Department until about a month ago when an Army contracted ailment forced him to quit. Lawrence was an employee of the city manager.
