The coming marriage of Miss Laura Louise Davis, formerly of Newport, and now living in Shanghai China, to Sir Robert Lyle Alton, English nobleman of Edinburgh Scotland, was announced Tuesday by the bride elect's brother, Harvey H Davis, widely known New York artist, who is visiting Leroy Davis, Wilson rd. Bellevue. The marriage is to take place Oct 13 at the British Consulate in Shanghai.

Miss Davis is the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Davis, who conducted a millinery shop on York st. Newport for many years. She has been employed as private secretary to Mark L Moody, importer at Shanghai. Sir Alton carries many war decorations won during the World War. After their wedding the couple plans to honeymoon in Scotland and return to China.

Miss Davis has another brother, Paul W Davis, Latonia. She is a niece of Charles Kemper, Newport.

Paul and Harvey Davis, 132 E Fifth street, Newport, were advised Tuesday by the War Department that their sister, Mrs. Laura Davis Alton and her husband Robert, have been liberated from a Jap prison camp near Shanghai.

Mr. and Mrs. Alton had been residents of Shanghai for the past 15 years. Mr. Alton has been engaged in Japan as a representative of a London steel concern. Mr. and Mrs. Alton were made prisoners of war when Shanghai fell to the Japs three years ago.

She was born 11 Oct 1900 in Newport to Andrew Jackson Davis and Nancy Caldwell Kemper. She traveled much in her life arriving in San Juan, Puerto Rico on 24 Nov 1947 on the Morning Light ship. She died 3 May 1963 in Hodges Bay, Antigua, West Indies
