Lawrence "Larry" John Kees

Larry J Kees, 21, Alexandria, son of Campbell County Treasurer, John Kees, who died 20 minutes after removal to St Elizabeth Hospital, Covington, and Janet Knox, Ft Thomas, whose condition is reported fair at the hospital were returning from a "furlough" party at the Blue Star Tavern, Dixie Highway, when the accident happened.
A reckless driving charge placed against H Sears, driver of the Ludlow Bromley trolley bus en route to the garage, was changed to manslaughter charge upon Kees death. The bus had been going south on Madison Avenue, crashed into the left side of Kees automobile, which turned on Madison from traveling east on Twelfth Street.
Kees, who received a medical discharge from the Army on account of a knee injury several months ago, had been employed as bookkeeper at the George Wiedemann Brewing Co. Newport, since his discharge. Kees was a well known member of the baseball team of Eastern State Teachers College, Richmond Ky. from which he was graduated in 1943. He was a graduate of Campbell County High School Alexandria. Kees was a member of St Mary Court Nov 1967, Catholic Order of Foresters and the American Legion of World War II, Alexandria.
Funeral will be from the funeral home of Tharp & Stith, Alexandria Tuesday at 9 am followed by requiem high mass at St Mary Church, Alexandria at 9:30 am. Burial in St Mary Cemetery. Besides his parents, Kees is survived by three brothers, George, Alexandria, Ben and Henry, Covington, two sisters, Mrs. P Neiser, Alexandria and Mrs. Anna Prebbel, Newport.

Mary Kees, administratrix of the estate of Larry J Kees, 22, Alexandria, who lost his life in an auto trolley bus collision April 8 in Covington, filed suit in Kenton Circuit Court Saturday for $25,500 damages. Mr. Kees was driving an auto that collided with a Green Line Bus, operated by Harrison Sears. The suit named the Cincinnati, Newport & Covington Railway Co as defendant.
