Lafayette Huffman

Kentucky Post, Tuesday, 7 July 1908, page 5

The body of Lafayette Huffman, carpenter, of 1127 Orchard st. Newport, which was found in the Ohio River Saturday, was brought to Betz's undertaking establishment late yesterday and was buried this morning in Grants Lick Cemetery.

Owing to the condition of the corpse, which had been in the water four months, it was not taken home and short funeral services were held in Betz's chapel before leaving for the cemetery. The theory that Huffman was murdered and his body thrown into the river March 5, after he disappeared from home, is being investigated by the Newport authorities.

Mrs. Huffman, the widow, and William Huffman, brother of the decedent, stated yesterday that they believed he was attacked by robbers and killed and his body was thrown into the river. They say their theory is substantiated by finding of his blood stained hat on the Central Bridge.
