NEWPORT
The police believe they have a clew to the burglars who made an
unsuccessful attempt to rob Koehler's saloon Sunday night. Last night Will
Burns, of Covert Run pike, reported that while returning from Newport with a bad
of shelled corn, he was held up by four hobos who were drinking beer on the C
and O Railroad track in Newport.
Finding that Burns had no money they cut holes in the bag of corn allowing the corn contents to scatter on the ground. From the description given by Burns of two of the men, Chief Ratliff is confident they were the suspects seen in Koehler's saloon late Saturday afternoon.
The Newport police will be asked to keep a lookout for them.
