First Class Private Kenneth Walsh, 22, Battery C, 103d Coast Artillery, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ones C Walsh, 27 Wilbur Lane, Ft Thomas, suffered fatal burns, Wednesday when a fuel stove exploded near Arkadelphia Ark. The youth died later in the day at an Army Navy Hospital at Hot Springs.
Private Walsh and Private Marion Combs were refueling the stove in a mobile army kitchen unit. They were pouring gasoline into the stove and fumes exploded. They couldn't get out of the cage in the back of the truck and the driver drove on for some distance before he knew what happened. Patrol R E Brown rushed the injured youths to the hospital in his patrol car. Private Walsh, whose clothing was burned from his body needed medical attention before he could be moved.
The injured men were members of Battery C, 103d Coast Artillery and were on route with a convoy from the Louisiana war maneuvers to their home post at Ft Sheridan Ill. Private Walsh's father is a salesman in the men's clothing department of the Mabley & Carew Co Cincinnati. Private Walsh was a graduate of Highlands High School, Ft Thomas and was employed by the Clover Leaf Dairy Co. Newport before his induction into the army last Feb 24.
Besides his parents he leaves five brothers, Ones Walsh Jr. and Robert Walsh, both members of the US Army; Harry Walsh, Louisville and William and Donald Walsh, Ft Thomas.
