Released with other US Airmen after being held as a prisoner of war by Bulgaria, S. Sgt. Kenneth F Kaffenberger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kaffenberger, 218 Walnut street, Southgate, is now spending a 30 days furlough with his parents and friends. Sgt. Kaffenberger, a tail gunner on a B-24 Liberator bomber, was stationed with the 15th AAF in Italy and was captured by the enemy last Aug 17, when the bomber, on which he was returning from a mission over the Pioesti oil fields in Romania, was downed. Sgt. Kaffenberger was released from the Bulgarian prison camp when Romania capitulated to the Allies along with other prisoners last Sep 17.

Prior to his capture, Sgt. Kaffenberger flew on missions over Southern France, Hungary and Romania. At the completion of his furlough the Southgate tail gunner is to report at Miami Fla. for further assignment.
