When Sheriff Plummer reached the Courthouse in Newport Monday he was greatly surprised to find his name was mentioned in a morning paper as a possible candidate for Congress. Jule did not like it. Said he:
"They at first had me a candidate for County Clerk, then for Circuit Court Clerk, next County Judge and now a candidate for Congress. The idea is ridiculous and does me an injustice. I never was and am not a candidate for any office for which I am not qualified. That lets me out of the race for Congress for that is a position I am not qualified to fill."
