Joseph Stanley Weyer

Kentucky Post, Monday, 29 September 1947, page 1

Mrs. Joseph Weyer and her four children at the home of relatives with whom they share a small seven room house. She and her veteran husband frequently are forced to sleep in their auto outside. Children, Rita, 8, Carol Jean, 4, Joseph Jr. 9 months and Charlotte, 6.

At least one northern Kentucky veteran and his family could testify Monday that the local housing situation is terrible. Because Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Weyer and their four children find the crowded conditions of his parents home and their auto as their only accommadations. The family lived on Hodge street, Newport, eight years, but that house was sold and they had to vacate. Next came a year at the old Weyer home near Alexandria.

Settlement of an estate brought sale of that residence and again the family had to move. Their efforts to rent or buy were futile. So the only place left was the home of Mr. Weyer's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Weyer, 21 E Villa place, Ft Thomas. The family's present predicament is a complete disruption to the school life of its two oldest children. They attended one school for a month, then had to move away.

Mr. Weyer, who was given a medical discharge after nine months in the service, is employed at Grovers grocery in Highland Heights. A nervous stomach prevented his return to his truck company job he held prior to war duty. The Northern Kentucky Emergency Housing Bureau has tried in vain to locate a home for the Weyers.
