The St Joseph's Orphan Asylum for Boys, now building on the Alexandria
turnpike, six miles from Newport, will be finished October 1st, at a cost of
$17,000. The institution has at present twenty-nine orphans, of whom
twenty-three are of Irish parents. The Franciscan Brothers in charge conduct a
day school in German and English and teach about one hundred children of the
neighborhood. The school house is used on Sundays and holidays for public
worship.

NEWPORT
The Trustees of St Joseph's Orphanage at Cold Spring, have decided to remodel the orphanage owing to crowded conditions. There are 113 children, from 2 to 15 years of age, now in the institution.
It was also decided to erect a new school building and to convert the old structure into a hospital for sick children. The annual feast will be held on Labor Day.
