The two sons of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A Miller, of 941 Columbia street, Newport, are now serving with the armed forces in widely separated war areas. Pfc. Charles Miller, 18, is now serving with the Marines on Okinawa. Previously stationed in Iceland before being sent to the Pacific theater, Pfc. Miller entered the Marines in January 1943, and was sent overseas several months later.
In a recent letter to his mother, Pfc. Miller said he met many boys from northern Kentucky including Ray Lape, Bob Heckle A H Miller and Jack Osseng, who was recently mentioned in Ernie Pyle's column.
S Sgt. Joseph Miller Jr. 25, is now serving with the Eighth Air Force in England. He entered the Air Corps in February 1942 and has been overseas five months. His wife, Mrs. Ann Barker Miller, an English girl has been in the British ATS for more than five years. She is going to live in Newport following the war. The two youths, grandsons of Mr. and Mrs. A J Miller, of 330 W Ninth street, Newport, both attended Newport High School. Their grandfather is a widely known Newport painter and contractor.
