Joseph McNamara, 54, brother of Michael McNamara, Newport Jailer, known throughout the United States as a professional ballplayer, dropped dead at his home, 323 Keturah st. Newport at noon Saturday. He was unmarried. Relatives said he apparently had been in good health up to the time of his death.
He was known in sporting circles as "Reddy Mack." He is said to have been one of the best of second basemen. He played with the Baltimore (Md) club for many years and managed that team at one time. He managed the Freemont (W. Va.) team when it won the pennant in the Tri-state league tow consecutive years. He also played for the Ohio State League and in the American Association. He played at the second sack on the Dallas Tex. tem and with the American Association.
"Reddy Mack" was the name given him by fans because he was always ready with a hit when a run was needed. During the past few years he had retired from the game.
