Joseph Martin, Newport fireman, recently discharged from the US tank service, arrived home Thursday morning from Camp Taylor. He was wounded in the battle of Argonne and for a time it was feared he would lose the sight of his right eye. Fellow firemen are arranging a homecoming celebration in his honor.

The firemen who went on a strike following the discharge of six members of the department were back on the job Wednesday morning and Newport had a Fire Department for the first time in nearly a week. The firemen has reorganized their union, with Joseph Martin as president. Julius Rickles secretary and Raymond Bohnenkamper as treasurer. The firemen have decided to establish headquarters at 708 Dayton st. The new members of the Fire Department will be admitted to membership in the union.

Newport city commissioners Tuesday named Thomas Bridell, Clarence Baker, Edward Fick and Daniel Miller as members of the Newport Fire Department. The new firemen take places made vacant thru resignations of Joseph Martin, Raymond Bohnenkamper, William O'Hara and Charles McLaughlin, former members of the firefighters force.

Four of the men on the board are former service men; Elmer T Gray, chairman; Conrad G Matz, secretary, who served 19 months overseas; Dr. A D Eckert, Public Health Service physician; Joseph Martin, former city fireman who was wounded in action with the Tank Corps.
