DIED AT NEWPORT


Joseph F Larkin, one of Cincinnati's earliest and most prominent financiers, died yesterday evening, shortly after 5 o'clock at the home of his son, Albert M Larkin, 545 Lexington avenue, Newport. Paralysis from which he had been suffering for three years, was the cause of death.

The deceased, was was born in Felicity Ohio, January 12, 1821, but settled in Cincinnati 63 years ago. Since that time he had been closely identified with the financial progress of the Queen City. His business integrity made his name famous and his connection with the firms of Larkin, Fox & Bros. Joseph F Larkin & Co. and Larkin, Wright & Co. gave him greater prominence.

During the years between 1870 and 1890, he successfully launched two banks, with $500,000 capital, the Metropolitan National in 1876 and the Cincinnati National in 1883. For 40 years he was a pillar of Wesley Chapel and later of St Paul M E Church. For the past 13 years he has made Newport his home. Four of his children survive him. A M Larkin, cashier of the German National Bank; Madison F Larkin, Francis Larkin, pastor of the Grace M E Church of San Francisco, and Miss Helen Larkin.

The funeral arrangements have not yet been made.

FUNERAL

The funeral of Joseph F Larkin will take place this morning. Services will be held at the chapel in Spring Grove Cemetery. Rev Dr. Harris, pastor of St Paul Church; Rev Dr. Rust and Rev Dr. Lucock of Grace M E Church will officiate.

Pall bearers were be Karl F Benndorf, John A Smith, Theodore F Speir, William Roettinger, Dr. G W Smith and W G Doering.

Mr. Larkin's sister, Mrs. G W Wilson of Clarksville Tenn. his son, Madison Larkin and Helen Larkin, of Scranton Penn. are here to attend the funeral.
