Joseph H Gaupel, 75, one of the veteran building and loan association men of Newport is dead. He was claimed by death Saturday at his home, Ninth and Saratoga streets. He had been ill a long time and recently retired as secretary of the Germania Building Association, after serving almost 25 years, because of failing health.

He was a veteran of the Civil War and a past commander of the William Nelson Post GAR. He was one of the organizers of the Germania Building Association and one of the oldest members of the St Stephen Catholic Church. A widow, a daughter and three sons survive him.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, with requiem high mass at 8:30 am at St Stephen Church, Rev Kolbe, pastor officiating.

The will of the late Joseph Gaupel of Ninth and Saratoga streets, Newport, filed for probate in the Campbell co. court Tuesday, leave the entire estate to the wife Theresa. Gaupel asks that the property be divided among four children, Joseph Jr. Adolph, Harry and Theresa at the wife's death.
