NEWPORT BRIEFS
Rev Joseph Gates, 51, brother of John Gates, the well known
private officer of the Central Bridge, died last night at his residence, foot of
Twelfth street. He was a prominent stone mason and was born and reared in
Newport.
Cancer caused his death. A widow, but no children survives him.
