Joseph Early, was a retired electrician, a dedicated father and husband and a former Dayton City Council member. Mr. Early, 68, died Thursday at his home in Dayton. Besides tending to his own children, grandchildren, great-grand-children, nieces and nephews, Mr. Early volunteered to help with youth events and had served as president of the Dayton Park Board. "He always took a special interest in the parks because of the children," said a daughter, Peggy Sparks of Dayton. Each year he lent his electrical expertise to wire the sound for Music Fest, a youth sports league fund-raiser in Dayton. Mr. Early also directed a drum and bugle corps called the Little Bucs and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local No. 212, Cincinnati.

Other survivors include his wife, Emma Early; a son, Terrell Renaker of Taylor Mill; daughters, Sharon Murphy and Kathy McIntyre of Dayton; sisters, Dorothy Ferrell of Boca Raton, Fla., Mary Jo Ferrell of Dayton, Monica Hoff of West Chester, Ohio, and Margaret Byrum of Spokane, Wash.; a brother, Thomas Early of Boca Raton, Fla.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian burial will be at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, at St. Bernard Church, Dayton. Memorials are suggested to University Hospital Joseph Early Memorial Fund, Barrett Brain Tumor Fund, Barrett Center, Mail Location 501, 234 Goodman St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45267-0508.
