Joseph M Betz, Clerk of Campbell co. filed suit today in Campbell Circuit Court against the L&N Railroad Co to recover $1000 damages. Betz was one of the party of Newport Elks who bought tickets to Mammoth Cave last December. He alleges while making the trip the car in which he was a passenger was derailed and overturned through the negligence of the company's employees.

He received numerous bruises and he further alleges he was compelled to and did, walk from the place of the accident to Mammoth Cave, a distance of three miles and the night was exceedingly cold. Besides Betz, there were a number of Newport Elks, accompanied by their wives, who were also injured in the accident and it is likely more suits will follow the filing of the Betz petition.
