In the cross examination of Dr. Joseph Back, Attorney McLaughlin brought out by means of a hypothetical question that Mrs. Mauget might have had a smothering spell and might have exerted sufficient pressure to cause paralysis of the heart. Dr. Back gave it as his opinion that it was impossible for a person to exert sufficient pressure on his own throat to cause death.

Funeral services of Dr. Joseph Back, 38, who died Sunday night at his home, 718 Monroe st. Newport will be held Wednesday morning at St Stephen Church. Burial will be in St Stephen Cemetery. The Newport Lodge of Elks, of which Dr. Back was an officer will conduct services at his home at 8 pm Tuesday.
