John Weckbach

Kentucky Post, Saturday, 10 November 1906, page 5

Charles Clinkenbeard, who shot John Weckbach, a Grants Lick farmer, last Tuesday near the latter's home, gave himself up yesterday to the Town Marshall of Butler, Kenton co. The shooting was an outcome of an old feud, it is claimed, and trouble between the two men has been looked for.

After Clinkenbeard gave himself up he was taken before Squire Darlington, who released him on bond for his appearance next Wednesday for a preliminary hearing. Clinkenbeard's account of hte shooting differs from that of Weckbach. The latter claimed Clinkenbeard fired a load of buckshot into his right shoulder, inflicting what was thought to be a fatal wound and the shooting was unprovoked.

Clinkenbeard denies this and alleges he was compelled to shoot Weckback in self defense. Weckbeck's condition is much improved and it is thought he will be able to appear at the trial Wednesday.
