Private John P Wakeman was born in Hesse Darmstadt Germany 14 October 1838, the son of Frederick and Margaret Wakeman. He served in the Company D of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Civil War.
John married Anna Dora Ahrns, daughter of Frederick Ahrns and Dorothea Weichman, on 8 April 1865 in Newport.
