Word has been received from Pfc. John V Wagoner that he has received the Purple Heart for being wounded in action.

Pfc. John V Wagoner, son of Mr. and Mrs. T M Wagoner, of Persimmon Grove, Campbell county, has been missing in action since Jan 31, a telegram from the Ward Department said. Wounded early in the Italian campaign, he received the Purple Heart and has been released from the hospital.

The 22 year old soldier took part in the African and Sicilian campaigns in November 1942. He was a farmer before entering the service Pfc. Wagoner was also a former student of Persimmon Grove grade school.

Pfc. John V Wagoner, son of Mr. and Mrs. P M Wagoner, Persimmon Grove, was killed in action Jan 31, his parents were notified by telegram from the War Department recently. The 23 year old veteran of the African campaign was wounded in action in Sicily and received the Purple Heart Oct 17. He had been overseas for more than a year.

Besides his parents, he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Burns, California Ky. and Mrs. Clayton Gosner, Batavia O. Constable George Hawkins, Persimmon grove, is a cousin of the victim.
