John W Tyre, 71, of 216 W Eighth street, Newport, suffered a deep face wound in an unusual accident today at his hoe. Mr. Tyre was cleaning his home, burning papers and rubbish in an open grate. Somehow a pistol cartridge became mixed with the papers and was thrown into the grate. As Mr. Tyre was feeding the fire the cartridge exploded. The shell struck him in the face. A passerby took him to Speers Hospital for treatment. His condition is not serious.
