DEATHS DOOR

Word was received in Newport this morning to the effect that John Trapp, one of the most prominent men in Campbell County, is dying in Philadelphia, where he went two weeks ago for medical treatment. Members of his family left immediately for that city to be present at his bedside. Mr. Trapp's home for years has been at Front and Main st. Dayton where he lived with his wife and family. He was one of the original Trustees of Speers Hospital served as Sheriff of Campbell County and later went into the contracting business, in which he amassed a fortune estimated at over a half million dollars.

He was also President of First National Bank of Newport when that institution was wrecked by Cashier Youtsey. The bank's failure cost Trapp a big amount of his money. His present illness dates back to the time the bank failed. His friends also declare that he was induced to accept the position of President, not knowing that the bank was on the verge of failure. Trapp secured a number of big contracts in different parts of the country. The last work he secured was the contract to build a water works plant for the city of Owensboro Ky. at a cost of $250,000. He also constructed a number of streets in Owensboro at a cost of $200,000. Many of the improved streets in Newport, Covington and Latonia were built by Trapp.

His present illness is due to heart trouble, an affection which caused him to go to Philadelphia for treatment some months ago, this being his second visit to that city in search of health. Mr. Trapp has two sons, Daniel and John Trapp and a daughter, Mrs. George Keller of Newport.
