Mrs. Mayme Hart, 516 Fifth av. Dayton, a daughter of Captain John Swift, won the diamond ring and was declared Queen of the Street Fair, which was held in Dayton during the past week.

Captain John W Swift, 79, police chief of Dayton for 20 years, was dead Monday at the Soldiers Home Dayton O. He passed away Sunday. Funeral will be held from his late residence av. Dayton. Swift was a resident of Dayton since the close of the Civil War. He was born in Boston Mass. He served with the 13th Regiment Co 8 of the Union Army.

He was a member of Joe Hooker Post, GAR; Victory Council No 22 Jr. OUAM; Guiding Star Lodge KofP; and captain of the uniform rank of the latter order for 25 years. Captain Swift's lodge once captured a state prize in a drill contest. Surviving him are a daughter, Mayme Hart, a grandson, Clarence Hart and a great granddaughter, Miss Irene Hart. He also had charge of the Sixth ave. School.
