John Schilling, 88, Civil War veteran, died Tuesday at his home, 418 W 10th st. Newport, following a lingering illness. Mr. Schilling had been a resident of Newport the past 16 years. He was a retired farmer. He served during the Civil War with Company D 16th Kentucky Regiment.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. J B Sablehouse, Mrs. Jacob Herringer, Mrs. Margaret Lochner and Mrs. George Brosey; four sons, George, Joseph, John Jr. and Fred J; 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral arrangements are being completed by the John J Radel Co. Newport undertakers.

Solemn requiem high mass was sung Thursday at 9 am t Corpus Christi Church, Newport, for John Schilling, 88, Civil War veteran, 418 W 10th st. Newport. Burial was in St Stephen Cemetery. Mr. Schilling died Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Margaret Lochner, with whom he lived following a lingering illness. He was a member of the GAR of Maysville Ky. He was with Gen Sherman on his famous march to the sea.
He is survived by four sons and four daughters. John J Radel Co. Newport undertakers have charge of the funeral.
