NEWPORT
John Richardson, 62, a veteran of the Confederate Army, died
yesterday at his home, 28 West Seventh street, after a lingering illness.
The deceased served as a Lieutenant in the Twenty-eighth Mississippi Infantry
until the last year of the war., when he was transferred to the navy and saw
service running the blockade.
He resided in Newport early all his life. Inflammation of the bowels was the cause of death. He leaves a widow and two sons, James and John.

NEWPORT BRIEFS
The funeral of John D Richardson, the old Confederate soldier,
took place yesterday afternoon, with services at the family residence on West
Seventh street. Rev O J Chandler officiating.
The remains were interred at Evergreen Cemetery.
