JOHN J RAIPE DEAD

John J Raipe, Esq. died very suddenly at his home on Monmouth street, Newport, yesterday.  He was one of the best known citizens of that city and vicinity and his death will be sincerely mourned.  He has been afflicted with a complication of diseases for several months but the immediate cause of his death was heart trouble.  He retired to his bed night before last and yesterday morning was found dead.

The deceased was a resident of Newport for over forty years.  He went to work on a steamer as a cabin boy and finally as a manager.  He was for many years in the meat business on the Public Landing and for years supplied the river trade between Cincinnati and New Orleans and amassed considerable money.  He was a prominent Mason and for years Treasurer of Robert Burns Lodge F and A M, of Newport and was a member of Olive Branch Chapter, Newport, Commander Knights Templar, Scottish Rite of Cincinnati.

He leaves five children to mourn his loss.  They are Mrs.. Florence Raipe, Ms. A R Bloomfield, Charles, John and Willie Raipe.
