NEWPORT NEWS
We were somewhat startled yesterday morning with the remark made
by one of our citizens, that there were four "river men" residents of this city,
dead and preparing for burial. We can say in connection that the remains of John
Mannier, son-in-law of Colonel Thomas Snyder, who was accidentally killed upon
the steamer Diamond, on Thursday last, in the vicinity of Hickman,
on the Mississippi River, arrived here by the railroad yesterday morning.
The funeral obsequies of the deceased will take place this afternoon at three o'clock from the residence of Colonel Snyder. The Odd Fellows will aid in the funeral solemnities.
