The funeral of J B Lock, Sr. who died night before last a few minutes before 12 midnight will take place this afternoon at 2 pm from his late residence on Monmouth street, Newport. Mr. Lock was born in Exeter, Devonshire, England, May 4, 1807. He emigrated from his native country to America in the year 1848, at which time he settled in Newport and entered into the grocery business, which business he carried on until the year 1858, when he removed to Cold Spring, this county and remained there until the year 1865.

He then returned to Newport. In the year 1867 he was elected Treasurer of the School Board and Secretary and Treasurer of the Evergreen Cemetery Company which position he held until about two years ago, when failing health constrained him to retire.

His children who survive him are Dr. F J Lock, John B Lock Jr. David R Lock, Mrs. Joseph Worcester of Aurora Ind. Mrs. J K Stone, Mrs. L N Horner and Miss Lida Lock. The deceased was much liked and respected by all who knew him. Rich and poor, young and old, all join in mourning the departure of him who while living commanded their respect and love.
