Constable Thomas Evans of Magistrate Donelan's court, Monday
night arrested John Leponte on a charge of being a deserter from the army.
Leponte, when arrested was acting as a bartender at Cook's saloon, at Front and
York sts. Newport.
It is alleged that on July 15 Leponte, with two other prisoners made their escape from Ft Thomas. Leponte was a member of Company C, Twenty-seventh Infantry and his home is in Philadelphia.
