NEWPORT
BARN BURNING-The barn of Mr. John Lawson, who resides near Flagg
Springs, was burned early last Monday morning. The barn contained about six
thousand pounds of tobacco and a quantity of grain, valued at about five
thousand dollars. No insurance.
The fire originated from a stump of a cigar, accidentally dropped among the hay by a farm hand in the employ of Mr. Lawson.
