John K and Missouri Kensel

 

John K Kensel was born October 1842 in Bavaria Germany. He enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War on 7 Oct 1861 as a First Sergeant in Co D 23rd Kentucky Infantry. The 23rd Kentucky Infantry Regiment was organized at Camp King in Covington, Kentucky and mustered in for a three-year enlistment on January 2, 1862, under the command of Colonel Marcellus Mundy. John was discharged 28 Dec 1861.

He married Missouri Stevens. He died 28 July 1909 in Carthage and was buried in the Persimmon Grove Cemetery.
