ALEXANDRIA
J J Stevens, aged 80, died late Friday night at his home near
Alexandria as a result of injuries sustained in a fall. He was visiting his
brother in law, W E Smeltz of Persimmon Grove, early in the week and fell down a
flight of stairs. He was rendered unconscious and remained so until death.
He was a charter member of the Alexandria lodge of Masons, which was organized 60 years ago and was Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Hub Helm for ten years. He owned several hundred acres of land near Alexandria at one time and was a lifelong resident of the county.
The funeral will take place at 11 am today with services at the Persimmon Grove Baptist Church. The Masons will have charge.
