FORMER JUDGE TAKEN BY DEATH


John T Hodge, 70, one of the pioneer members of the Campbell co Bar Association and former judge of Campbell Circuit Court died early Saturday at his home, Park av. and Nelson pl. after a lingering illness. Mr. Hodge, who for many years was a prominent figure in Democratic political circles, had been in failing health for the last three years. Three years ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis and since that time he had not been actively engaged in the practice of law.

Mr. Hodge served as master commissioner during the term of the late Judge Charles J Helm of Campbell Circuit Court and in 1897 was elected judge of Circuit Court, serving six years. Six years ago, he was the Democratic nominee for Circuit Court judge and was defeated by the present incumbent, Judge A M Caldwell.

He was prominently identified in Democratic circles both in Campbell co and thru out the state. He served as chairman of the Campbell County Democratic Executive Committee for many years and also was a member of the State Executive Committee. Mr. Hodge was a lifelong resident of the Newport Lodge of Elks and past exalted ruler. He also was a member of the Newport Lodge of Masons. He was a member of St Paul Episcopal Church, Newport.

He is survived by his widow, Grace and three stepsons, Herbert Stewart, Philadelphia and George and Lawrence Stewart, both of Ft Thomas. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:30 pm at the funeral home of Charles A Smith & Son, 32 E Forth st. Newport. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Members of the Campbell co Bar Association are to meet Monday at 1pm to attend the funeral services in a body.
