John Herron Sr. 81, of 714 Liberty st. Civil War veteran and father of John Herron Jr. Newport police sergeant, died Wednesday at his home, following a lingering illness. Herron was a lifelong resident of Campbell co. and was widely known. He was a retired mill worker, he having worked for many years in the Newport Rolling Mill.

Besides his son, he is survived by his widow, Mary, nee Baker, and three daughters, Mrs. Caroline Miller, Newport, formerly of New York City; Mrs. Florence Barton, Los Angeles and Mrs. Anna Herweh, Lindsey st. Newport.

Funeral services are to be held Saturday at 8:30 am from the home of his son, 433 W Eighth st. with a requiem high mass at 9 am at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be in St Stephen Cemetery.
