Memoirs of the Lower Ohio Valley, pages 80-81
John Henderson was a native of Ireland, but came to America while still a young man, settling in Pennslyvania. About 1810 or 1811 came to Cincinnati which was then a small village. He enlisted in the army 7 Apr 1814 in Cincinnati. After serving in the War of 1812, he moved to Campbell County, where he died when about forty years of age. His widow married Henry Martin, a wealthy farmer and large land owner.*
He married Abigail Livingston 15 July 1814 in Brown Co. Ohio. John was born in Kikenny, Ireland in 1796 and died in Carthage 4 Jan 1840. He was buried in the Carmack Cemetery.
*Cannot find any record of this marriage and in the 1880 census she is still listed as a Henderson.

George Washington Henderson, son of George and Nancy, was for the greater part of his life employed on the river, most of the time in the lower trade. During the Civil War he and his brothr Alva were the first and second mates on the steamer, "Prima Donna" and were captured by the Confederates and held as prisoners of war for about four months. He received a good common school education and like his father, and along with his brother Alva, found employment in the steamboat trade. For more than thirteen years he has followed the river, the greater part of that time in his present position.
In October 1885, Mr. Henderson led to the altar Miss Lucy, the daughter of Oliver and Mary Moore, old and honored residents of Campbell County. The Hendersons are members of the Methodist Church South of Carthage.
