State of Kentucky Campbell County

On March 27th of 1826 in the above named county and state, there appeared in open court, the said pensioner, John Hays. He stated and swore that he had first enlisted in the year 1779 in the state of Pennsylvania, and he said that he had served until his period had expired. The said pensioner stated and swore that his discharge had been burned in the year 1781, and he said that he is or was a resident of the United States and that he has not by gift or sale disposed of any of his property. He stated that his family consisted of his wife, Betsy Hays, at the age of 30 years, and occasioned to fits, and very incapable of labor. Isabella Hays, at the age of 26 years, Rachel Hays at the age of 22 years, Sarah Hays at the age of 14 years, and Samuel Hays at the age of 17 years.

The affidavit of James Taylor was also given at the time and in the same place as the foregoing. The said deponent being the clerk of the Campbell County Court stated and swore and certified that John Hays, the aforesaid pensioner did serve in the War of the Revolution.

The affidavit of William Tucker was also given at the same time and in the same place as the foregoing. The said deponent stated and swore that he himself had also served with the said pensioner, John Hays in the said war.

The statement of John Taliaferro was also given at the same time in the same place as the foregoing. The said deponent stated and swore and testified that the above statements are true and that all credit as such are due to them.
