John Frei

Kentucky Post, Monday, 14 September 1903, page 5

John Frei, 72, was murderously attacked Saturday night on the Alexandria Pike, between Southgate and Cold Spring, while on his way to his home at the latter place. Two men rushed from ambush, struck him from behind and left him lying on the ground, bleeding from an ugly wound in his head.

He was picked up by pedestrians and taken to the office of Dr. J A Regan, where his wounds were dressed. On account of his advanced age and the severity of the wound, it is feared the injuries may be fatal. Frei lives in a small place by himself and has no money to speak of and says he does not know of any enemy that might be prompted to injure him. He has lived apart from his wife for some time, she residing in a house adjoining him.

John Frei, 70, was found dead in a stable in the rear of his home on the Alexandria Pike last evening. The indications are that death was due to heart disease. Frei was in apparent good health yesterday, and he had been dead only a short time when his body was found. There is not evidence of foul play, but Coroner Digby will make a thorough investigation of the death.
